Why men address girls/ ladies/ women as “chicks” and “bitches” ? I don’t get it. To be frank, I feel a bit insulted.
This was what happened. Some time ago, one of my guy classmate came up to me and said: “What’s up, my bitch? (Do you want to go to) McD?”
I was stunned, shocked, insulted to say anything. Then, he gave that stupid grin and said: “Just kidding…”
For your information, bitch is a female dog. As you all know, female dogs are “cheapskate” animal who will not refuse to be laid by any male dog, as long as the male dog has got the right timing.
So, girls, you see how insulting it is when someone address you as a “bitch” even though it is in a friendly manner.
Now, about “chick”. It is not a very bad term, compared to “bitch”. But, somehow I feel that the term is a certain disrespect towards women. Whenever somebody says “chick”, the picture of a bimbo, plastic, blonde kept woman appears in my head.
So, in my opinion, addressing a woman as a “chick” sort of downgrades her intellectual.
But, in men’s opinion, they seem to see that a woman being adressed as a “chick” should be her biggest honour. It shows that she is good looking and the thing men sought after.
Seriously, we of the female sex, can be referred to as a “girl”, a “lady”, a “woman”. If she is pretty/ gorgeous/ sexy, just refer to her as a “pretty/ gorgeous/ sexy girl/ lady/ woman.” Never address your female friend as a “bitch”, even though in a friendly manner. It is insulting.
The word “chick” and “bitch” just explains that men still views women as sex objects, despite all the bra-burning feminist movement.
But, times are changing. Nowadays men are viewed as sex objects too. Hence the half-naked male models on highway billboards/ posters/ magazines. But, they are not labelled in the same way as women. However women try to put it into words like “hunk”, “sexy beast”, “sex god”, it is still not as bad as “bitch”.
Patriachy has been around since…time immemorial in most part of the world. Although women has gain liberation in most ways, but some things are not easy to be removed.
Guys, do your lady(-ies) a favour, stop calling them bitches. “Chick” is not so bad, unless she requests you not to address her that way.
